Thinking Plague venture in adventurous, challenging, sometimes knotty musical directions similar in many ways to the multi-genre explorations of European Rock in Opposition bands of the 70s. Based in Denver, Colorado, the band has been active since 1982, and have released seven critically acclaimed studio albums between 1984 and 2015. This is their first performance in Austin.

“Head-spinning complex rock of the highest order… the feverish surfeit of ideas investigated here are almost without precedent.”
-Alternative Press

"Thinking Plague lays down some of the most rhythmically complex, texturally inventive, and melodically challenging popular music of the last 30 years, and somehow makes it all sound easy and natural."
– All Music Guide

“As an intense concoction of rock and all manner of RIO fusions, songs and avant garde, it’s one that’s destined to challenge, with flashes of Henry Cow rubbing shoulder with Magma and King Crimson”
- Audion

“The spirit of Henry Cow, Egg, and Kohntarkosz-era Magma is found here; so is the ballast from Charles Ives, John Cage, Yes, Slayer and Björk.”
- Tarkus

“With one foot firmly in the rich bed of Euro-folk and another in a more classic melodic proggy space, this Austin based quintet brings a lot of great ideas to the fore with a snappy and clever songwriting style and an interesting combination of instrumentation … pulling together a wide array of compositional ideas that all mesh together well, but still challenge conventional senses.” - Expose.org

“a light-hearted instrumental approach with incredibly intense and precise playing … intelligent, wonderful and enchanting music” - Disagreement.net

In the gallery, The Kraken Quartet (Chris Demetriou, Andrew Dobos, Taylor Eddinger, Sean Harvey) will play a short set of pieces by Thinking Plague drummer, Robin Chestnut

Wank Tribe are primitive rock futurists who have developed a way to turn texts into non-judgemental instrumental graphic notation. Not the music of fantasy and ether, this is the music of reality and the rugged surface of the earth. Wank Tribe currently performs excerpts from the Kama Sutra, speeches of Martin Luther King Jr., and trending topics from today's headlines.
