The ‘70s were the heyday of quickly produced, formula crime shows. The blueprint for many of these shows was: second-tier movie star appears as a cop or private detective, every week there is a crisis involving a guest star, often a second-tier movie star as well. The star has to go undercover or otherwise place him- or herself in jeopardy to solve the crime. Often there is a socially relevant angle like drugs or prostitution. In the post-Watergate years, these shows tried to walk down some dark and socially relevant paths. The results were hilarious. This free program presents a selection of the weirdest and most entertaining of these ‘70s star-driven crime show episodes along with an informative introduction about the genre.
