Joining Forces 2015 Summit says
A local summit in Austin, Texas aimed at promoting an open discussion of strategies for implementing the recommendations of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. This summit will build on the work already underway by police officials and members of the community to improve law enforcement/community relations. The primary outcome of the summit would be the creation of a “blueprint for action” that includes comprehensive, realistic, inclusive, and culturally competent short- and long-term initiatives, each with a list of required resources and a specific timeline for implementation.

Invitees will include the Austin Police Department chief, Mayor Steve Adler, representatives from the NAACP, and other various government representatives and community members.

Police officers' use of deadly and potentially excessive force, particularly in relation to African American and Hispanic civilians, and possible methods of addressing the growing problem will be among the central topics of discussion.

Our hope is that this summit will act to create a safe and productive space where both sides of the argument can share their voices and perspectives - and attempt to find common ground. Potential solutions to the issues will have an opportunity to be discussed, and policy recommendations will be proposed with everyone in mind.
