Mc Raven Address Walkout says
Say NO to imperialism and NO to the militarization of campus! Once again, UT is hosting a swarm of US intelligence and military officials on campus to give them a chance to whitewash their sins, spread their propaganda, and recruit students to a life of crime. The UT Intelligence Studies Project (a joint project of the Strauss and Clements Center) is hosting their second annual National Security Forum from Nov. 19-21, which will include representatives from the CIA, National Security Council, Depatment of Defense, etc. The event is meant to “explore the security challenges the U.S. currently faces and how our national security institutions are positioned to respond” – that is, how to exploit situations to give more power to the institutions responsible for generating violence in the first place. We are asking people to specifically protest the plenary address by William McRaven, former head of Joint Special Operations and US Special Operations Command and current UT Chancellor. He is directly responsible for drone strikes, torture, night raids, and the death of innocent civilians. In light of the horrific violence from Afghanistan to Syria, from Iraq to Lebanon, from Yemen to Palestine, it is urgent that we clearly reject and resist these representatives of US imperialism who are directly responsible for the current state of the Middle East. This address will take place Friday, November 20, from 12:00-1:30, at the AT&T Conference Center. If you would like to participate, please register for the event here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/great-powers-failed-states-and-new-frontiers-national-security-challenges-in-the-21st-century-tickets-18747346819. Make sure you sign up for the McRaven “Lunch and Plenary Address” on Friday, November 20, from 12:00-1:30 – there are several options on the page for the different sessions. Also note registration does NOT guarantee you a seat so please try to be at the AT&T Center by at least 11:30! More information about the event can be found here: https://www.clementscenter.org/events/item/417-great-powers-failed-states-and-new-frontiers-national-security-challenges-in-the-21st-century. As our French comrades have said, vos guerres, nos morts – their wars, our deaths!
