Mike Kanin is the President and CEO of the Capital of Texas Media Foundation. He has extensive media experience, including many years of freelance reporting. His work has appeared in the Washington City Paper, the Washington Post‘s Express, the Boston Herald, Boston’s Weekly Dig, the Austin Chronicle, and the Texas Observer. He’s also served as the Washington City Paper‘s City Lights Editor and as the co-founding editor of Unfit Times. His work still appears from time to time in the Monitor. You can email him at michael.kanin@cotmf.org. Follow his epic live-tweeting of Austin City Council Meetings at @mkanin.

Richard Z. Santos is a writer and teacher living in Austin. His work has appeared in The Rumpus, The Morning News, The Texas Observer, Barrelhouse Online and many others. He applied for press credentials to the DNC and RNC conventions and is still waiting to hear back.
This past semester, Richard’s high school seniors completed a project where they had to mount campaigns on behalf of actual presidential candidates. At the end of the project each student completed an essay in which they were asked to answer this question: Explain why the outcomes of the Presidential primaries and general election matter to you. From Bernie-love to decades-old anti-Clinton right-wing talking points to genuine fear of Trump and Cruz, Richard will be exploring their responses and speculating on what they indicate about this newest generation of voters.
