Edinburgh's Beltane Fire Society re-enact the traditional Celtic ceremony of Samhuinn (pronounced sa-wain), which symbolises the death of summer and the coming of winter via mythical costumery, pyrotechnic displays, tribal drumming and heaps of body paint (not to mention a high likelihood of nudity and simulated violence).
The event starts on the High Street before processing down Cockburn Street and finishing on a stage at the Mound Precinct.
