A Think Inc. Event... An evening with Dr Brian Greene

“I believe the process of going from confusion to understanding is a precious, even emotional, experience that can be the foundation of self-confidence.”

The very building blocks of our universe have been a point of contention throughout a longstanding history of scientific intellect…and, admittedly, the pseudoscientific less-than-intellect. Paradigm shifts have seen us inching closer and closer to uncovering the ever-elusive mysteries of the cosmos, because frankly, matter matters. One of the minds at the forefront of such ambitious endeavours is Dr Brian Greene.

A graduate of Harvard University, and receiving his doctorate in physics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1987, Brian Greene’s work as a physicist is primarily based in string theory: a theoretical framework which is a departure from particle physics, instead re-imagining the physical universe as being comprised of interacting ‘strings’.

But when not in the process of revolutionising the way we understand the fabric of the physical world, as a science communicator Greene weaves the intense complexities of physics into simpler understandings, a translation of mind-bending concepts easily digestible for those with all levels of interest in science, from infant to casual to academic.

Bolstering an appreciation for critical thought and scientific discovery across all generations is not merely a mission or movement of intellect, but one of profundity that Greene describes in a most Sagan-like approach, as “… a way of life … a perspective … the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner that’s precise, predictive, and reliable – a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional.”

In the pursuit of making the abstract accessible, Greene has penned ‘The Elegant Universe’ (1999), the New York Times best seller ‘The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality’ (2005), ‘The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos’ (2011), and the novella ‘Icarus at the Edge of Time’ (2008), a sci-fi retelling of the classical Greek myth.

Going off the theoretical heels of our 2014 tour An evening with Dr Michio Kaku, it is with excitement that Think Inc. – the team behind the Australian tours of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, Dr. Cornel West, and ‘The Amazing’ James Randi – continue the cultivation of a scientifically-literate society by bringing to Australia An evening with Dr Brian Greene, coming March 2016.
