UWA French Club and Perth French Theatre present ANTIGONE

A new adaptation by Stella Sulak based on Jean Anouilh and Henry Bauchau

"Her name is Antigone and she must play her part to the very end..."

Oedipus, king of Thebes, dies in exile and leaves his kingdom to his two sons, Eteocles and Polynices. Unable to share their inheritance, the brothers incite a civil war in which they are both killed by the other's hand. In the days following, Creon, the brother of the incestuous Queen Jocasta, takes the Crown and tries to restore order to Thebes, ordering that his former ally Eteocles receive a state funeral, whilst Polynices' body rots just outside the city walls. Antigone, Oedipus and Jocasta's younger daughter, defies her uncle's orders and sneaks out at night to perform the funeral rites, knowing her act of treason is punishable by death.
