Whether you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, sample first-rate dining, recharge on a health and wellness-focused break or embark on some prime sightseeing, Weggis Vitznau Rigi has something to offer. And whatever you decide to do with your time, you’ll be treated to the blissful lakeside views and ambience of the ‘Lucerne Riviera’, as the area around the lake is known. If you need any further convincing, consider the thoughts of one Mark Twain when he visited Weggis: “I believe that this place is the loveliest in the world”.

In Weggis Vitznau Rigi, walking is much more than simply a way of getting from A to B – it’s a chance to get to know this incredible area and soak up some of the breath-taking natural sights. The Rigi is blessed with over 120km of footpaths, and spring is perhaps the best time of year to start putting those paths to good use – thanks to the area’s mild climate, spring means you’ll be able to spot palms, orchids and sweet chestnuts along the banks of Lake Lucerne, giving your wandering a refreshingly tropical feel.

You certainly won’t go hungry in Weggis Vitznau Rigi, thanks to a selection of marvellous, stylish restaurants showcasing all kinds of innovative cuisine. In fact, there are five Michelin stars and over 100 Gault-Milau points scattered between the region’s dining spots, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding where to treat your taste buds. Try cute lakeside venue Naschwärk for expertly crafted sweet treats and fancy finger food, channel Scandi-chic at HYG, which offers creative takes on Nordic cuisine, or sample exemplary dishes at Kräuterhotel Edelweiss, Rigi-Staffelhöhe, which utilises traditional Swiss ingredients and a great deal of culinary flair.

We could all do with an occasional break from the manic pace of modern life, and yoga is a great way to do just that. Thankfully, Weggis is something of a yoga hub, with ample opportunities for practices suitable for all levels, whether you’re a regular in the yoga studio or a first-timer. And look-out for various events taking place across the year, from mini-retreats to sessions on the shores of Lake Lucerne, offering an extra layer of tranquillity as you flex into your downward dog.

If you’re looking for a way to experience Weggis Vitznau Rigi that’s a little different – but still great fun – why not try this brilliant scavenger hunt? Suitable for both children and adults, the trail is themed around tracking down an elusive fox, with teams needing to use their cunning to crack codes and find hidden messages, all taking place around the beautiful Lucerne Riviera. At 2.5 hours, the Foxtrail is an ideal morning or afternoon activity and is available in both German and English.

Just 45 minutes by boat from Weggis Vitznau Rigi (or 30 minutes by car) is Lucerne, a city that feels like a pretty town or village, thanks to its friendly atmosphere and colourful architecture. There’s plenty to do and see, from museums and galleries to the famous Kapellbrücke (chapel bridge) leading to the Wasserturm (water tower) – one of Switzerland’s most famous sights – and the lively Hirschmatt and Bruch quarters, both full of bohemian shops, boutiques, cafes and bars.
