As temperatures reach highs of 40C this week, everyone in the UK is hankering for a cool dip, a water fight or the ultimate heatwave treat: a trip to the waterpark.

So it’s pretty convenient that just this week, a new study has revealed the very best waterparks in Europe. And drumroll, please... it’s in Dorset, England.

Dorset Adventure Park is set across two lakes and surrounded by 18 acres of woodland, right next to the historical ruins of Corfe Castle. It scored a respectful 4.73 out of 5 in a study that examined 852 waterparks across 29 countries.

With inflatable ‘wipe out’-style obstacle courses, mud trails (read: getting absolutely covered in mud) and two lakes full of inflatable bouncy castles, this Dorset park might well be the ultimate escape from the heatwave.

Following in a close second, Siam Park is in the rather more tropical Canary Islands. With an impressive water slide that takes you whooshing right through a shark tank, this rather epic place has rapids, sky-scraping slides and even so-called ‘volcano experiences’.

Croatia’s Aquapark Istralandia places third, thanks to its beautiful forest setting in the hinterland of Novigrad, along with 23 water attractions and more than 3km of slides.

Here are the top five waterparks in Europe, according to the study:

1. Dorset Adventure Park, UK

2. Siam Park, Spain

3. Aquapark Istralandia, Croatia

4. Energylandia, Poland

5. Djurs Sommerland, Denmark
