1. Epping Forest, London

It might surprise you, but the UK capital is home to its own fully-fledged forest. Situated in the northeast of the city, Epping Forest is a sprawling beast that would take a lifetime to cover in full. If you’ve only got one day, head to Hollow Ponds and take one of the boating lake’s vessels for a spin.

You don’t even have to leave Edinburgh city centre to get your daily dose of nature. The Royal Botanic Gardens to the north of the New Town is home to 70 acres of flora containing more than 13,500 species of living plants. Join one of the daily tours and get to grips with the various different types of rhododendrons before taking in the heights of the garden’s ravishing rock garden.

3. The Gower Peninsula, Wales

The UK’s first official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, south Wales’ Gower Peninsula really does live up to the billing thanks to its long, sandy beaches. There are over 20 coves and bays to choose from, but whichever one you opt for, be sure to pack your Pink Grapefruit and Pomelo gin for a perfect drink to sip at sunset.

Babbling brook? Tick. Paddling area? Tick. This picnic spot in the Forest of Dean is an idyllic place to have some al fresco eats in the heart of Gloucestershire’s ancient forest. Before you start dining in the dappled shade of the surrounding oaks, be sure to build up your appetite with a stroll around one of the short signposted trails.

5. Alexandra Park, Manchester

South Manchester’s Alexandra Park is a brilliant slice of green space if you aren’t able to venture further afield into the neighbouring National Parks. The Victorian Terrace makes for a great after-work hangout, and on a sunny evening you can enjoy drinking in your surroundings with an ice-cold GB Gin and tonic in hand. Cheers!

Malham Cove, Yorkshire

6. Malham Cove, Yorkshire

You’re spoilt for choice for natural beauty in the Yorkshire Dales, but Malham Cove is a jewel in the crown of the National Park’s numerous crags, caves and waterfalls. Take a hike to the natural amphitheatre from the neighbouring village of Malham, and if you’re feeling adventurous, make your way to the top of the 70m high limestone cliff for amazing views back down below.

The centre of Birmingham isn’t renowned for its greenery, but to the south of the city lies Cannon Hill Park and a combined 200 acres of parkland and woodland ripe for exploration. Get up close with the likes of monkeys and red pandas at the Wildlife Conservation Park or sink a hole in one at the Golden Putter mini golf.

Running from Winchester to Eastbourne, this iconic 100-mile walking route and bridlepath transports visitors through the best of the South Downs National Park. Like getting high? Clamber your way to the top of Buster Hill for panoramic views of the undulating countryside or brave the valley of Devil’s Dyke for a real thigh burner.

Fowey, Cornwall

9. Fowey, Cornwall

The quaint Cornish coastal town of Fowey is as picture-postcard as it gets. Whether you want to go in search of a secluded bay (Lansallos is the quietest) or trek out to St Catherine’s Castle, be sure to take a Rhubarb and Bramley Apple gin and tonic in tow – with all the exploration, you’ll have earned it, after all.

Deal, Kent

10. Deal, Kent

A Chase escape isn’t limited to the green stuff. The quirky town of Deal on the Kent coast is a worthy day trip destination and you don’t even need the sun to have fun. If it’s not warm enough for an afternoon on the beach, go in search of trinkets and tidbits in its collection of antique shops and galleries that are dotted around its warrenlike lanes.
