Want to see real-life lions? Here's the place. And while, not surprisingly, it lacks the hands-on interactivity of a petting zoo, the Drakenstein Lion Park does offer a whole bunch of captive-born lions mooching around in the sun, seemingly content in the fact that they will never be reintroduced to the wild.

Drakenstein Lion Park is an internationally acclaimed and award winning sanctuary for captive born lions. The sanctuary is involved in the rescuing of lions in distress, from South Africa as well as from overseas. The sanctuary provides lifetime care to all the animals it rescues and provides them with an environment where they can live out their lives with dignity.

The sanctuary is situated in the scenic Cape Winelands and comprises of 50 acres of lion habitat.

The sanctuary currently houses twenty nine lions. The animals at the sanctuary are assured a chance of living out their natural lives in an enriched environment.

We are not involved in the gratuitous breeding and hand rearing of lion cubs for human playthings and actively oppose this practice.
