Kitsch, messy and a late-night legend, this basement bar attracts a regular crowd of debauched luvvies and miscreants.
Play spot-the-soap-extra as you order a pint of Red Stripe, Kirin Ichiban, Heineken or Wells Bombardier at the bar, which is surrounded by signed black-and-white publicity shots of not-quite-familiar faces.
The club is members only, but the trick to enjoying its way-past-midnight hospitality is to arrive before 8pm and stay put. After work, you can find a spot beneath the hand-painted glass panels and theatrical memorabilia: a dark and cosy alcove, perhaps, or prepare for take-off in one of the aeroplane seats.
Being an artists' club, there are naturally two stages for cabaret, and a big screen for the seventh art.

5. Great bar, early week and it is the place to meet friends and chat, maybe be entertained and spot a star, soap star at least. Show tunes and good old classics played at a levbel where you can hear yourself speak, Friday & Saturday offer up slightly louder and modern music but classics in their own right. Best of all it can serve late every night of the week. Get in before 8pm and stay till 3am without paying membership!
Clearly the first person who posted on here has missed the point of the whole venue. The manager does dress up and is very open to everyone who enters the venue it is an amazing venue if you are luck enough to get in you will have an unforgettable evening.
I Would like to give this place a 5 str rating. It is the most amazing venue in the centre of London, the only place in a large city where you can feel like you are in a local country pub. It is primarily a mambers club for actors, anyone who isn't particularly theatrical should go with an open mind. Expect show tunes, bubbles and smoke. The manager does have a tendency to get dressed up and interact with the customers... But for everyone I know who frequents here it's all part if the Phoenix charm. Give it a go!!!
no word of a lie, this is one of the worst places I have ever been in London..
it smelled like a toilet.. and there was a horrible 90 year old man dressed in a multi coloured waistcoat who was drunk as a skunk and would not stop pestering me and my friend
we told the barman..and he told us that apparently HE WAS THE MANAGER..
as soon as he came back again.. we left straight away
I tell you solemnly.. avoid like the plague
