The accents are bright red rather than dark green, and there’s a little more nostalgia-inducing Americana around the place. However, from the contents of the menu to the layout of the room . The choice of food here is lengthy, but not suspiciously so, taking in a variety of fast-food favourites. The Eagle might have the edge in the burger stakes, but the Diner wins for its all-day breakfasts: moist, mouth-watering pancakes, hearty omelettes and a broad Mexican spread (comprising eggs with chunks of spicy chorizo, gloopy black beans, salsa, fresh guacamole and a couple of flour tortillas). Milkshakes are only as good as their ingredients, and the five scoops of ice-cream that went into our generous pistachio shake were sub-standard. Still, for the most part, this is a likeable little place that does exactly what it says on the tin.

Have to agree with others about the service in this place.
I’ve visited twice, and don’t ever plan to go back. The service is truly terrible (the service charge of 12.5% is included in your bill).
I had pancakes, they were dry and the portion of maple syrup served with them was tiny.... i would have needed 5 times that little thimble of syrup to make the pancakes edible. It was just too hard to get the attention of the staff to bother trying for more. Milkshakes are good though, mind you I was finished it by the time my food arrived.
The waiting staff didn’t appear to have any supervision. They were all busy chatting to each other to notice the customers.
Good idea, terrible execution.
The food is average. I would pay a visti to my local pub for a good burger
My friend and I visted the Shoreditch branch of, "The Diner".
I ended up writing the following e-mail to management:
Yesterday my friend and I visited your Shoreditch branch. My friend liking all things American, this option looked like something that would be a nice birthday treat for her.
I would like to explain that it was overall a disappointing experience. It took over an hour to get our starter. Waitresses although I appreciate busy, were extremely unattentive. The cooking staff behind the counter were not making any attempt to keep with the demands.
It looked like for a saturday evening short staffed. But looking at the reviews on line, this seems like a regular problem. I have the impression that management perhaps run that establishment on minimum outgoings.
I had a barbecue chicken breast meal, this was disappointing.
After a few gentle reminders that we have been waiting for our food, and the continuing absence of it, there were no apologies.
I find it hard to believe that you can justify the prices paid for your meals and the 12.5% service charge automatically added to your bills.
I got the impression of the low morale of the staff and management needs to work on this. Usually in other similar priced restaurants, if foor staff are struggling, the manager gets actively involved. I did not get the impression this was the case.
There was not the American service with a smile, especially on July the 4th.
I've been here 3 times over the last year. Each time it's been a massive disappointment. S-l-o-w service every time; verging on the glacial (25 min wait for the bill?). Incorrect orders. Surly staff. Cold food. What did arrive warm was ok, esp the burgers. But not much better than UB or Gourmet. It's style over substance.
My husband, a friend, and I went to Sunday brunch a couple weeks ago. We all ordered up breakfast fare, and everything arrived as expected. The food was pretty average, but a welcome change from the breakfast fare at the sister-like restaurant the Eagle. The portions were hearty yet not intimidating. The side order of hash browns appeared flash-fried from frozen (not like American hash browns . . . more like hash browns one might find at an American McDonalds in the morning). Another side order of home fries looked greasy and a bit on the burnt side. The main components of the meals, however, were cooked well and generally pretty tasty.
I would return to the Diner, simply because it's the best American breakfast I've found in Central London to date. Although, that's not saying much.
The restaurant's decor was cool, and we enjoyed the booth seating. The service was initially prompt and remained regularly available throughout the meal.
We loved the free drip coffee refills! Now THAT'S like a true American diner.
Well booked for a party of 20 and they only had 15, the food had come out lukewarm and the service charge had cost more than what we had ordered!
the only plus i would recommend would be the dessert!
Nice shakes, tasty food, whats not to like?
Ace!
Food is so-so, the milkshakes are delicious, but the huge service charge and the appalling slow servce, make this a last resort for dining. We waited about an hour for food today - simply unacceptable!
I visited the Shoreditch branch and I must say I was very disappointed. We were left waiting to be seated without anyone acknowledging us for a good 10 minutes and then had to wait a good 45 minutes for our basic meal of Eggs benedict and pancakes with syrup to arrive.
The sauce on the Eggs benedict was one of the worst I've had and I couldn't finish it as a result. The poor couple behind us ordered a vegetarian Eggs benedict and it arrived with ham on it!
Overall the service was poor and food very average.
