  • Karahi King

  • This popular little neighbourhood eaterie attracts an eclectic following. On our visit, we spotted a large Punjabi family dressed in all their finery; canoodling couples tucked away in the back; and several weary men in search of a hangover cure. If you’re in the mood for greasy, cheap Punjabi food, cooked before you in the open kitchen, this is the place for you. Don’t expect anything too healthy – to prepare most of its dishes, Karahi King uses the karahi (a wok-like cooking vessel), and lots of oil. Nevertheless, there’s also a wide choice of vegetarian food here, such as karahi chana (chickpeas), bhindi (okra) and paneer. We were drawn towards the meat dishes and opted for a karahi saag gosht, which arrived as an uninspired green mush of lamb pieces, cardamom shells and spinach. Karahi chicken tikka renewed our hope, however; the sauce’s simple ingredients of onion, garlic, tomato and coriander were fresh, and each bite ended with a tangy burst of lemon. We recommend skipping the starters – although the chilli bhajia (battered, deep-fried whole chillies) is mouth-wateringly delicious – because the main courses are so large.

the reviewer doesn't really know what they are talking about, been going here for about 8 years and its always been good - the food you get here is pretty authentic and down to earth - much better than the westernised food you get at most "indian" restaurants. stick with the basic dishes, lamb karahi, methi chicken and you cant go wrong

I think the comments are simply are too judgmental and are not based on reality. This well established restaurant largely stress on quality rather than over rated ambience and extra overhead charges. Food is definitely value for money such as chicken and rice for £8.50 which is better than one naan and few vegs on the top for £10.99 which is known as vege pizza.
I would certainly recommend Karahi King as the place to dine not from the top of my head but because my family, friends and I have been dining there since last 20 years. The taste of their food is simply too good which you cannot get in any Indian cuisine.

The review above must have been written by people without taste buds or the cooks must have been having a REALLY bad day - this place is awesome, has been around for over 20 years, and is the most consistent provider of decent AUTHENTIC Pakistani/Indian cuisine in NW London, just looking at the ethnicity of the clientele should be evidence enough that this place serves homecooked style dishes, that your mamma would be proud to call her won!
