Despite its long opening hours, you'll always find a few members of the area's Jewish community picking up treats in Carmelli. Selling kosher produce under the supervision of London Beth Din the court of the Chief Rabbi expect to find black-clad Orthodox Jews browsing the luminous, fruit-shaped marzipan sweets, while the friendly staff serve up dense, creamy cheesecake by the kilo. There's a good range of bagels on offer, with chollahs and rolls on the left, creamy gateaux in the centre, and hot boreka and pizza by the milky counter' on the right. The range is huge, including a good nutty baklava, flaky pain au chocolat and well-filled sweet cheese buns. In the evenings, Carmelli is popular with a young crowd.
