  • Pasha

  • Last year Pasha changed its generally traditional look to a slicker, more modern style befitting the Angel location. Rich dark greys and low lighting are now the order of the day, enlivened by cream walls, bright cushions and sections of red and gold textured wallpaper. Wooden flooring and a lack of tablecloths can make the interior noisy. Our meal couldn’t be faulted. We started with a first-rate houmous kavurma, and squid in beer batter. A main course of ískender came in a big bowl containing a wide range of meat, both lamb and chicken, shish and köfte, mixed in a rich tomato-based sauce on yoghurt and pide. In cafés, manti (Turkish ravioli) is often served as tiny parcels in a bowl of yoghurt. Here, a bowl of large, tasty pasta envelopes were pleasingly displayed around a central dollop of thick yoghurt. Of late, the menu has moved beyond providing only traditional Turkish food, branching out to include the likes of roast rack of lamb on a potato gratin. Perhaps as a result, a broader spectrum of diners seems to come here. Good for them: Pasha deservedly remains the top spot for Turkish food in Angel.

I am so happy my friend and I decided to try out this Turkish restaurant. The food we had was really excellent and something a bit different to the rest of the places on Upper Street. The portions can be very large however so be warned about how much you order! It's also important to leave room for dessert as they have an excellent choice. As with most of Angel, the place does get a little noisey when full but they don't pack the tables in quite so much as other places nearby. All in all a really good turkish restaurant to try.

Not sure about the other reviewers but this was a terrible experience. I'm half Turkish living in the islington area.I would expect to know something about Turkish food. I first visited Pasha 3 or four years ago. The decor was very ottoman Turkish and the food was amazing. On my last visit I found they changed the decor to a minimalist theme and also changed the menu to a more Turkish\European fare. The quality has gone down and so have my visits.
    What a shame.

Beautiful and tasty. If you go on Sundays you can get a delitious three course meal for less than £12.

Absolutely amazing. I have not been to "ANY" Turkish restaurant that was capable to do so many of the dishes as their original recipes. I would absolutely recomend: kofte(better than my grandmothers), Iskender(as good as the family owns the trademark for the dish), borek, as well as the Lamb shank was absolutely phenomenal.
just to add dessert was not the best.
