Ed and Tom Martin's first London venture - their ETM group now boasts eight more venues across the capital - is a gastropub still proving popular with those in Clerkenwell.

There's a good array of draught and bottled beers and ciders (20 in total), complementing a wine list with an old world slant and bottles starting at £19. The food ranges from truffled celeriac soup served with mushroom tortellini to pan-fried fillet of Peterhead cod with brown crab croquettes, seashore vegetables and a chive butter sauce.

There's a weekly quiz night too, alongside occasional special events.

Had a nice meal here, they were accommodating to our table of 8 and the food was all good - not amazing, but still good. The only thing I was slightly disappointed by was that I chose to get the beef rib steak which was almost double the cost of anything else on the menu, and while it was nice, I would not recommend it over anything else in the menu, it doesn't stand out t me as being worth the cost of the dish - if you want steak, go to a steak resturant and pay less for something better! What I would recommend is the lamb neck, which was delicious! By far my favourite meal, the venison was also nice. Sadly they only had one IPA on tap and were all out of it, but the other beers were good enough to fill the gap!

A bit average on the whole, but still a nice meal at an alright price.

I've been to the well on two separate occasions now! The first time was not worth mentioning but the second I thoroughly enjoyed !

Their rum and prosecco cocktails were yummy and their oysters were so fresh and delicious!

Downstairs is a little dark for my liking but its clean so there's no fear of catching the plague if that's what you're worried about!

Would I go out of my way to go back a third time? No but if something came up there then I wouldn't turn it down.

Perhaps a bit harsh but - An average pub in an average location. I didn't spend any time in the upstairs area however the downstairs area is quite small, very dark and, when I was there, very busy/ noisy. The drinks were nice but the food I tried was below par. The idea of the downstairs area is to have guest pop up companies and while I was there it was Rum Shack - but they had run out of rum! The staff were all friendly but the general atmosphere, location and food wasn't up to much.

Terrible customer service. I am tired of be treated second rate, just because I am vegetarian. Went for dinner with a friend, I am veggie and their menu is very limited. Ordered a salad and chips, I asked for a basic salad with Beetroot walnuts and goats cheese, I got a basic salad with anchovy on, I complained they removed the anchovy and mixed up the salad and sent the same one back, it was very fishy, not what I had asked for, there was no beetroot or walnuts and it tasted fishy. This pub can’t get the basics right there is no hope. And for the chips they forgot them, just before ten pm a member of staff asked if everything was ok, I said no its terrible I am never coming here again... When I told them how bad the salad was they offered to remake it but its 10pm now what's the point, you messed it up twice and I have had to wait while my friends meal was cooked. Also the chips they forgot them, they offered to take this off the bill, they offered... Thanks such a nice place shame the service is terrible. AVIOD!!
