A remarkable restaurant located just by Putney Bridge. Proprietor Giuseppe Turi (previously both sommelier and maître d' at the Athenaeum and the Connaught) has created a unique establishment showcasing both the best Italian regional dishes and the country's finest wines.
Enoteca means a 'wine library', where customers can sample a variety of vintages. The enticing menu suggests the best wine, available by the glass, to accompany each dish - something only an establishment with this cellar and expertise could dare to do.
A stunning ragù di seppia con ceci e tria (cuttlefish in white wine with chickpeas, scialatelli pasta and deep-fried tagliatelle) was perfectly paired with a citrusy Roncaglia Colli Pesaresi from Le Marche; grilled sardines stuffed with pecorino and mint were set off by a peachy Rami Falanghina. Main courses of monkfish with lobster raviolo, mussels and pea purée; and fedelini with crab, cherry tomato, chilli and rocket were similarly graced with stunning selections.
It was hard to resist having wines with the glorious panna cotta and torta al cioccolato, and the dignified but friendly service and soothing earth-toned decor made it difficult to leave. Enoteca Turi isn't cheap, but prices are nowhere near what you would pay for the West End equivalent.

Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Booking advisable, Separate rooms for parties ( seating 18 and 30 ), Disabled ( toilet ), Dress ( smart casual )I booked the restaurant for Valentines for myself and my girlfriend, after a recommendation from a colleague, and having read very good reviews. Whilst my girlfriend really enjoyed it and thought the food was excellent (well, I guess she was not paying the Valentines special price of £49.50 a head before drinks for a 3 course meal and coffee), I was thoroughly disappointed with the experience.
There was barely enough space between the diners on either side of us to get to our table - on sitting down for a "romantic" meal, I felt like I should be introducing myself to the diners on either side, as we were practically a table of 6. When the gentleman next to us got up to leave, we had to move our table out of the way so he could get through (as well as dishes to one side so his jacket did not get my food on it).
Although my squid starter was excellent, my suckling pig left a lot to be desired - my understanding was that the skin should have been crisp i.e. "crackling" - instead it was soft and inedible. In addition, they might have been better calling it suckling stuffing, with a little bit of pig on the side. Whilst service and wine were excellent and my girlfriend really enjoyed her meal (she had the venison), at over £160 for a meal for two (with admittedly a nice bottle of wine and some lovely amaretto to finish), I would have expected more from the restaurant than the "Valentines commercialisation" that I experienced.
I think I am now fully converted to the anti-Valentines brigade and will be having a meal at home next year.
