Restaurant: South Indian vegetarian

This South Indian vegetarian chain now has four branches, this Covent Garden one being the newest.

It looks much the same as the Hammersmith original, with smooth blond-wood walls dotted with elegant brass figurines of Shiva, Krishna and other legends from the Hindu pantheon; the cooking of Sagar originates in Udipi in Karnataka, a temple town.

There are myriad variations on rice and spice to be had here, from crisp dosais (a few kinds) to uthappam, flat savouries which at first glance look like pizzas. The thalis are reliable too: various selections of mild and light curries ranging from thorans (grated vegetable stir-fries) to payasam (a runny dessert containing cashews).

Grea tvalue for lunch - get a take away box for £2.95. It's worth being a vegetarian for your lunch hour!

Great food..they do a lunch box for £3.50. It's cheap and delicious, a bit more variety in teh lunch box would make it perfect.

I love this restaurant. I have been there about 5 times now and the food is fantastic at a brilliant price. The staff are friendly and I wish I lived closer and could go there more

Good call by Time Out. We arrived at 9.00 PM on a Saturday evening and it wasn't busy. The service was great. We went for the set menu offer- just £5.95 per head - the food is good and delivered quickly and there was a decent selection of wines.

If you're looking for a great value pre-night-out dinner in Central London, this is the place.

The food was great. They have a gluten-free menu, which I appreciated.
