In the past, those in search of a spicy chicken hit had to press a Prohibition-style buzzer at the back of Lisboa Grill's unassuming takeaway in order to gain entry to its main dining room. With a recent expansion, the cloak-and-dagger tactics are no longer necessary; a new café area next door now leads to the wood-panelled restaurant, which is decorated with frescos of Lisbon landmarks.

Lisboa Grill is still one of the best places in town to enjoy franchise-free peri-peri chicken. Delicious platters of charcoal-grilled chicken were the common denominator on all tables, with the dishes distinguished by the medium, hot or extra hot level of spice offered.

The rest of the menu consists of seafood dishes of varying quality. A starter of breaded prawns was meagre, and a main of bacalhau à brás (salt cod and fried potatoes) was almost inedibly oily. Stick to the main attraction and you won't be disappointed, proving that peri-peri chicken still rules the roost at Lisboa Grill.

Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff. Just remember, it's not a fast food place, so don't go expecting Nandos and you'll have a great meal. We went there early afternoon on a Saturday and it was nice and quiet.

Quite simply the only place to eat chicken. I will be heading there yet again to celebrate my birthday this year.

Worst wait time ever for a chicken , expect to wait up to 20 minutes for a chicken and they dont answer the phone so you cant even phone through the order.

rather go to Nandos and dont waste your time and money !

An institution. People who say they like chicken and then go to Nandos make me laugh! This place is the real deal.

The Gallery, now Lisboa Grill, certainly has changed since the expansion into the neighbouring restaurant. What once used to be one of my favourite restaurants unfortunately has turned into a place I would recommend anyone else against.

A list of issues from our last visit: Food ordered at 9.15pm, first plate of food arrived on table at 10.15. Last plate of food arrived on table at 10.40. Service, slow. No condiments given upon request. 'Cover Charge' = £11 for a small bowl of olives. Waitresses unable to carry plates without smashing them every 15 minutes. Unwanted drinks added to bill. Rude management.

Shame, it's not what it used to be...
