Germany's been through a lot. The last 600 years have seen huge changes in the country's identity as it has dealt with complex political and religious influences. This exhibition gathers 200 objects which represent four key themes:f floating frontiers; empire and nation; arts and achievement; crisis and memory. Many of the exhibits are rare loans from venues across Germany that have never been on display in Britain before. An early edition of Grimms Fairy Tales, a replica gate from the Buchenwald concentration camp and Ernst Balach's solid bronze mourner 'Der Schwebende' are all striking inclusions in this physical telling of a most dramatic history. Listen out for the Radio 4 series of the same name, presented by the BM's Neil MacGregor.
