Is La Brea the new Restaurant Row?

You guys. Have you walked down the La Brea corridor lately? It's kind of blowing up. In the past year, La Brea Bakery celebrated 25 years by opening a beautiful new location at La Brea and 6th St. Bludso's Bar & Que opened a second outpost of their beloved Compton BBQ joint at La Brea and Clinton St, Sugarfish's latest sushi spot is at La Brea and 1st St, and Rèpublique—winner of our 2014 Readers' Choice Awards for Best New Restaurant—took over Charlie Chaplin's former office space at La Brea between 6th St and Wilshire Blvd. And now, news that Karen and Quinn Hatfield's latest restaurant, Odys and Penelope, is coming to the neighborhood this winter. Safe to say, La Brea Avenue between Wilshire and Melrose may be the newest Restaurant Row.

The owners of Hatfield's and the Sycamore Kitchen (another La Brea spot that happens to make, in my humble opinion, some of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city) are continuing their love of simple California fare with an emphasis on live-fire cooking. Expect to see dishes like churrasco-roasted dry-aged sirloin cap and whole bird churrasco cooked using the churrasco grill, as well as dry-rubbed smoked shortrib and smoked Alaskan black cod. As with their other two restaurants, the Hatfield's heavy use of seasonal vegetables will also be present, and a full beverage program will be offered with a strong beer and wine component. We can't wait to check it out—and to see what will pop up on La Brea next.

Odys and Penelope will open in Nov/Dec 2014 at 127 S La Brea Ave
