Don’t miss these five cool winter carnival celebrations! Kids will zoom around on skis, taste local fare, hear amazing musical performances, hang in Bryant Park and even explore an ice castle or two.

Winter Jam NYC

Free skiing and snowboarding lessons? Don’t mind if we do. Check out this sweet winter sports day, and don’t forget your sleds! See our feature for the full scoop. Jan 23 (nycgovparks.org). Free. All ages.

Winter Carnival at Bryant Park

Though the full lineup hasn’t been released just yet, this popular annual festival is easy to get to (and jam-packed with fun)! Dance in a silent disco, try ice golf and grab delicious food to warm yourselves up. Feb 5, 6 (wintervillage.org). Free. All ages.

2016 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

This ten-day-long festival offers cool activities for kids. We’d recommend visiting on the 13th or 14th if you’re traveling to get the full effect! Some events are free (like the Gala Parade, Snowy Owl face painting, kiddie parade, winter carnival parade, bands’ sound-off and a fireworks display), while others require a small fee, like Snowshoe Softball, the Lion’s Club Chili Sale and the 27th Annual Winter Book Sale. Be sure to explore the Ice Palace (a massive walk-through igloo-type castle). Feb 5–14 (saranaclakewintercarnival.com). Free. All ages.

Lake George Winter Carnival 2016

If you’re visiting Lake George sometime this February, you’ll want to check out the Winter Carnival’s festivities. Last year’s activities included a bonfire on the beach, a chili cook off, giant kite-flying on the ice, dogsled rides ($20), ice-diving demos and 4x4 truck races. Dates TBA (lakegeorge.com)

Syracuse Winterfest

Join in on a treasure hunt, chowder cook-off, team trivia and more at this Syracuse fest. If you find the treasure hunt’s medallion, you’ll win $1k! Feb 11–21 (syracusewinterfest.com). All ages.

Honorable mention: Ice Castles NH
