Apple Seeds


It's never too early to expose tots to the classroom environment. Held in spaces ranging from romper rooms to gymnastics centers, these play space and gym classes offer everything from mommy-and-me basics to craft projects and tae kwon do, giving kids a bit more structure than open playtimes might allow.

Apple seeds
Besides their spotless members-only romp rooms stocked with foam shapes, balls and building bricks, these two hubs offer classes for tots up to age five. New walkers pick up ballet basics in Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Toes; musically inclined tykes try their little hands at drums, piano and other instruments in the renowned Songs for Seeds program; and parents and their babies can bend and flex together in Parent & Me Yoga. Baby Moves
True to its name, this West Village tot spot offers a variety of mommy-and-me classes for children ages 4 months to 3 years, ranging from intro rock & roll and ballet to toddler-friendly art, cooking and soccer. City Treehouse
With classes ranging from music and movement to crafts and cooking, parents are sure to find something for kids to enjoy. Highlights include Creative Kitchen Fun with Food, which teaches colors, numbers and shapes along with culinary skills, and Bilingual Birdies classes, offered in Spanish, Hebrew, French and Mandarin. 129A W 20th St between Sixth and Seventh Aves (212-255-2050, citytreehouse.com).  Ages newborn to 5 years.

Discovery Programs
In addition to romping through Discovery's huge gym, kids of all ages can take classes in music, martial arts, dance and more. Frolic!
This Williamsburg playspace offers developmentally appropriate classes in music, movement, art and more for the under-five set. Options include Bouncing Babes (ages three to six months), Early Learning Series: Playgroupies (ages two to three and a half years), and Cooking Stars drop-off class (ages three to five years). The Gym Park Gymnastics and Play Center

Nobody's too young or old to burn off energy at this Greenpoint play space. Mommy-and-me classes focus on building locomotor movements, flexibility, agility and social skills through play; toddlers can continue to build these same skills in the Tots Tumble class. Programs for children ages six and up include recreational gymnastics, cheerleading and parkour, as well as a superhero training class—designed to build your youngster's balance, agility, speed and stamina through obstacle-course practice. 81 Oak St between Franklin and West Sts, Greenpoint, Brooklyn (718-349-6627, thegympark.com). Gym Time
A mix of early enrichment classes, creative programs, sports options and gymnastics lessons make up the bulk of this spacious gym's offerings. The youngest children (7 to 18 months) learn to sign, make music and navigate an obstacle course alongside their caregivers in Tiny Tot Fitness. The slightly older set (14 months to 2 years) gets a taste of preschool in PEP classes, where 30 minutes of drawing and painting in the classroom are followed by 40 minutes roaming through the gym. Cooking, art, tae kwon do and gymnastics programs ranging from basic lessons to competitive team practice are on tap for children ages three and up. 1520 York Ave at 80th St (212-861-7732, gymtime.net). Jodi's Gym
Offering plenty of activities for kids, the Upper East Side gym features athletic offerings like Mighty Muscle Movers (an action-packed, play-based class for toddlers) and Tumbling Tots (gymnastics for the preschool set) as well as music and dance programs. Best of all: With class enrollment, families are entitled to such perks as free open-play sessions and discounts on birthday parties, camps and special events. 244 E 84th St between Second and Third Aves (212-772-7633, jodisgym.com).  Ages 9 months to 12 years.

Kidville
Take your pick from more than 100 classes—all created by early childhood development specialists. Program highlights include My Big Messy Art Class (ages 18 months to 2 years), Savvy Scientists & Awesome Engineers (ages 4 to 5) and Kidville Sports (ages 3 to 6). This year Kidville also introduces Rockin' Railroad: Unplugged, a spin-off of its popular Rockin' Railroad class, in which a "conductor" leads kids through concepts like tempo, rhythm and sound identification. MoonSoup
Three stages of classes ensure kids build age-appropriate skills as they play, sing, dance and make art. Stage one mommy-and-me classes serve newborns to 28-month-olds and include classes such as Rock Tots, Messy Art & Music and Crawlers Rock & Sign. Choose from partial- or full-separation classes for toddlers ages 1 to 2 years in stage two. Wiggles and Giggles
Dreamed up by a Washington Heights mom, this play space offers fun instructional classes in addition to plenty of room to romp. Youngsters can pirouette in a dance class, make edible art or work up a sweat in Zumba (parents can join a Zumba class of their own as well).
