Cafe Sabarsky

Caf Sabarsky
Take well-behaved elementary schoolers to lunch at Caf Sabarsky, the elegant Viennese caf inside the Neue Galerie. (Kids under 12 aren't allowed in the museum, but they're welcome in the eatery.) Goulash soup and smoked salmon with cream cheese and scallions are solid choices, but it's the dessert, like a slice of Sacher torte, that makes this Austrian spot a destination. 1048 Fifth Ave between 85th and 86th Sts (212-288-0665, cafesabarsky.com)

Caffe Grazie
This bi-level eatery swarms with Met-goers lunching on a sort of Italian bento box: two savory items (think butternut-squash soup and tuna sandwich) and a sweet such as tiramisu. Straightforward Margherita pizzas and homemade gnocchi keep children sated, but there's a good chance they'll also be looking forward to the postmeal "make-your-own sundae" off the kids' menu. It comes with a scoop of ice cream plus toppings like sprinkles and hot fudge. 26 E 84th St between Fifth and Madison Aves (212-717-4407, caffegrazie.com)

Dos Toros Taqueria
If your crew's exhausted by a trip to the Met, walk east to mini chain Dos Toros, an ode to the West Coast taqueria, and relax over a carnitas burrito or carne asada tacos. The kid-friendly menu may be simple—burritos, tacos and quesadillas—but the food is fresh, flavorful and thoughtfully prepared with the likes of organic beans. 1111 Lexington Ave between 77th and 78th Sts (212-535-4658, dostoros.com).
