Step right up and feast your eyes on some of the world’s most spectacular circus acts! The Big Apple Circus is returning to New York City for the 36th year in a row.

While this year’s production, Luminocity, offers a spanking-new storyline (the circus debuts a brand-new plot each year), some scenes may look familiar to native New Yorkers—after all, this year's show takes place in the heart of Gotham. Families can watch as Wall Streeters fly through the air on a double trapeze, humdrum dog-walkers inspire pups to do eye-popping tricks, a food-cart vendor juggles produce, construction workers show off jaw-dropping feats of strength, and a daydreaming repairman scales a ladder to nowhere—all set against a backdrop of billboards and skyscrapers.

These charming characters are brought to life by some of the most seasoned performers in the business. At only 15 years old, juggler Ty Tojo holds a Guinness World Record for juggling seven objects behind his back at once. Award-winning comedian Rob Torres—also known as the International Man of Mirth—has been eliciting laughs for the past two decades. Animal trainer Jenny Vidbel, a third-generation circus performer, has worked with creatures great and small (think a 2,000-pound draft horse and a 12-pony drill team to pound puppies and porcupines) for most of her life.

Even better, none of the seats are more than 50 feet from the ring, so your children (the show is best for those ages three and up) will be in the thick of the action, no matter where you sit. And don’t worry: Even if temperatures plunge, your crew will stay nice and toasty under the big top, which will be heated during the winter season.

Big Apple Circus: Luminocity opens at Damrosch Park Lincoln Center on October 25 and runs through January 12. To purchase tickets, visit bigapplecircus.org or call 888-541-3750 for tickets; prices start at $25.
