The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) kicks off its annual bash celebrating artists and illustrators in the comic and cartoon art industry next weekend, on April 5 and 6, at the 69th Regiment Armory (69 Lexington Ave between 25th and 26th Sts). The $5 general admission fee grants access to creative displays highlighting 216 artists and exhibitors as well as entrance to a gallery featuring their original works from 11am to 6pm both days.

RECOMMENDED: 50 family-friendly spring happenings

Families should make sure to stop by the Kid Zone (new to the fest this year), where they can take in kid-oriented animation and art from exhibitors including TOON Books, Enchanted Lion and BOOM Comics and get their creative juices flowing with hands-on art activities.

On Saturday, catch a special kids' edition of CAROUSEL, a series of live comic readings by cartoonist R. Sikoryak (noon), and return on Sunday to find out how comics can be a powerful teaching tool for children learning to read (1pm). Peanuts fans of all ages can enjoy a treat both days, when the beloved Charlie Brown balloon featured in the Macy's Thanksgving Day Parade makes an appearance, floating over the fest inside the Armory. Yummy nibbles, drinks and sweets will be available for purchase. Make sure to stop by the Society of Illustrators shop to peruse kid-friendly toys and art sets as well.
