Families can indulge in free cookies at bakeries all over the city during the third annual Macaron Day in New York City.

Here at Time Out Kids, we have a thing for sweets—Easter eggs, birthday cakes, candy and anything chocolate—and we assume there's at least one sweet tooth in most NYC families. So, needless to say, we were thrilled to find out that Wednesday, March 20 is New York's third annual Macaron Day, celebrated by bakeries around the city. The best part? In honor of the holiday, created by legendary pastry chef Francois Payard, the delicate Parisian cookies won't cost a dime at certain shops around the city. (If you do, however, fork over a little cash for some take-home macarons, 10 percent of proceeds go to City Harvest.) For a map of participating bakeries, go to MacaronDayNYC.com.
