The Central Park Conservancy and JPMorgan Chase have just announced the Central Play initiative, a complete restoration of Central Park's 21 playgrounds, many of which have changed little since being built (most in the 1930s). The focus of the plan will be on bringing 21st-century design innovations and sustainable materials to the park's play spaces, and better integrating them into their surroundings. Chase has donated $3 million toward the effort, which is also being funded by the Central Park Conservancy, with additional support coming from the Paulson Family Foundation. We're excited about the revamps but also hope that our favorite Central Park playgrounds, which we called out in our list of the city's 25 best playgrounds, won't lose the things we love about them most—like the Billy Johnson slide and pagoda, the Heckscher Park bridge to the cliff and the Three Bears statue, for starters. The Conservancy is looking for your memories, too. Go to their dedicated Web page to share "photos, videos, songs, poems, drawings—whatever the Park's playgrounds inspired you to share," use hashtag #centralplay on Twitter or go to their Facebook page.
