You’ve come a long way, baby
For her first picture book, Lazy Little Loafers (Abrams, $17), New Yorker staff writer Susan Orlean (The Orchid Thief) investigates the mystery of how infants get away with doing nothing all day long. In a very recognizable Manhattan, rendered by illustrator G. Brian Karas, the charmingly indignant school-age sister of a carefree stroller-jockey comes to the conclusion that tots lead pampered lives because, simply, they’re smarter than the rest of us. Tired parents eyeing their child’s Peg Perego with deep envy will likely agree. Ages 5 to 8.
