It’s a dream come true for kids who longingly watch city construction workers steer those awesome trucks: Diggerland, a U.K.-based amusement park, is coming stateside early this summer, and it’s well within day-trip distance from NYC.

The lot behind Sahara Sam’s Oasis, a water park in West Berlin, New Jersey, will become the site of the new Diggerland USA, where families can operate and drive real backhoes, tractors, dumpers, excavators and skid-steer loaders. It’s the first park of its kind in the country, and on top of obstacle courses, there’ll even be carnival-esque rides made out of construction vehicles, like the Spin Dizzy, which spins eight passengers up, down and around in circles on the arm of a 20-ton excavator, or the Backhoe Adventure, where a family of four can embark on a mystery tour with the guide of a ride marshal and take turns manning the wheel. Those worried about safety can rest assured: All equipment has been either made stationary or modified to run only on a specified course so that even kids can drive, ride and dig with all the vehicles.
Elsewhere in the park, little construction workers can go rock-climbing, go through a ropes course, frolic in the Kid Zone playgrounds, hang out in the arcade, and ride on a train or a swamp buggy. Families can also get a bird’s-eye view of the park with the Sky Shuttle, a crane-like truck that’ll take them five stories high!
Once it opens early this summer, Diggerland USA will operate for nine months out of the year, with weekend and holiday events running through December. Admission costs are still TBA, but will likely be between $20 and $35 per person. And good news if you’ve got a summer birthday coming up: Party packages are available for truck-obsessed kids.
