Jazz Age Lawn Party 2013 at Governors Island

Youngsters born in the 21st century have it pretty good—TV, video games, high-speed Internet—but that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy spending a day in another era. This weekend’s Jazz Age Lawn Party 2013 on Governors Island was the perfect opportunity to sample some of the best old-timey amusements from the decade of Gatsby. Families danced the Charleston to swingin’ tunes by Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra, competed in a tug-of-war, oohed and aahed at vintage cars and had a ball with carnival games in the fest’s Kidland area. Take a look at our pictures of the freewheelin’ families dressed up in their Prohibition-era best. And if you missed this fest, don't get your pearls in a knot—the next one is only two short months away, on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18.
