"Kiku: The Art of the Japanese Garden" at the New York Botanical Garden

Autumn in New York City is not exactly synonymous with flowers, but that's not the case in Japan. The New York Botanical Garden's "Kiku: The Art of the Japanese Garden" introduces city kids and their families to the ancient Japanese tradition of hanami (celebratory "flower viewing") with a focus on the fall flower kiku, or chrysanthemum. Horticulturalists have spent the past 11 months cultivating the flowers for this three-week show, shaping the flowers into bridges, walls, topiary and bonsai-like trees, and judging by the photos we took (in the slide show, above), it's most definitely worth the trek to the Bronx.
