Festival de las Flores at Queens Botanical Garden

The summer may be winding down into school-year frenzy, but there is still time to stop and smell the roses (or in this case fresh flowers imported from Colombia). On Sunday, August 18 families gathered at Flushing Meadows Corona Park for the Queens Botanical Garden’s Festival de las Flores. This Colombian summertime tradition kicked off at 10am with a parade of beautiful floral displays, folk dances and musical performances from various countries like Bolivia, Brazil, Ireland and Bangladesh—just to name a few.

If you missed out on last weekend's multicultural celebration, don't worry! Round two of the Festival de las Flores will make its way to Manhattan at Central Park West and 106th Street on Sunday, August 25. Head to the parade site at 10am to watch the silleteros of Medellin, Colombia carry floral creations on their backs. Musicians, dancers and cultural delegations will join the sea of parading flowers.
