It's been a big year for animated films, so we were extra-excited to hear the nominations this morning for the Best Animated Film category in the 2013 Oscar Awards. Five films—Brave, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, The Pirates! Band of Misfits and Wreck-It Ralph—will compete for the coveted title. (Last year's winner was Rango.) And while not a movie for kids, the short film "Curfew," which stars 12-year-old Queens native Fatima Ptacek, a former Time Out Kids cover model and the current voice of Dora the Explorer, was nominated in the Short Film/Live-Action category. (Kids can hear Fatima as Dora in the brand-new Dora Rocks! primetime special on Monday, January 14, at 7pm on Nickelodeon.) As for the Oscars, winners will be announced on Sunday, February 24. Will you be watching? We will.
