The Muppets are coming back to Queens! (slide show)

Thanks to a beyond-generous donation by the family of Muppets creator Jim Henson, a new Muppets gallery will be built at the Museum of the Moving Image.

Henson's Fantastic World at Museum of the Moving Image: Bert and Ernie

We were the first in line when the Jim Henson exhibition opened at the Museum of the Moving Image back in July 2011. Now we're thrilled once again, this time at the news announced earlier this week that the same museum will house a new gallery devoted solely to the work of Jim Henson—including his beloved furry friends, of course—slated to open in winter 2014–15. The $5 million project was spurred by the donation of more than 400 works by Jim Henson's family; the City of New York (the, ahem, probable inspiration behind the seminal show Sesame Street) has pledged $2.75 million toward the total needed for the gallery. It doesn't hurt that Mayor Bloomberg's got a soft spot for the Muppets himself, as he made clear in a statement in conjunction with the great news. In the meantime, spend some time checking out the newest crop of exhibits to hit the city for summer 2013, including shows about unicorns and dinos!
