Four Seasons by Philip Haas at the New York Botanical Garden

If you're heading to the New York Botanical Garden this week, don't miss the "Four Seasons" installation, a series of busts by artist Philip Haas that anthropomorphizes (and botanizes—okay, we know that's not a word) the four seasons. Each of the four, 15-foot-tall busts in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory Courtyard appears to be made up of giant pieces of organic materials—fruit, plants, vegetables—just like the figures in the paintings of 16th-century master Giuseppe Archimboldo, only 3-D and gargantuan. (The resemblance is striking; Google the painter.) Have the kids not look at any plaques and try to guess which bust represents which season; each is festooned with season-appropriate bounty.

"The Four Seasons" by Philip Haas will be on view at the New York Botanical Garden from May 18 to Oct 27.
