Kara Walker, "Fall Frum Grace, Miss Pipi's Blue Tale"

In conjunction with her show at Sikkema Jenkins & Co., Walker presents three new videos, including the titular piece: a shadow-puppet narrative inspired by a trip the artist made to Mississippi. In the work, Walker links the region's current cultural and economic torpor to its Jim Crow past, when inflamed fears of black men sexually violating white women led to violence and the loss of innocent lives.
