A bright palette, a vocabulary of minimalist, geometric forms and a variety of mediums ranging from installation to textiles are some of the distinguishing characteristics of Mika Tajima's work, which also employs Conceptualist conceits to explore the intersection of art and design. This show, for example, includes abstract tapestries whose appearances are based on digital audio files translated into visual patterns. The recordings themselves are of the sounds made on the floors of various textile plants in Pennsylvania, as well as in a Philadelphia data center—juxtaposing the old and new economies within elegant formal objects.
