Mountaintops are on the menu in Stingel's latest show, which features huge photorealist paintings based on a black-and-white photo taken near the artist's birthplace of Merano, Italy, in the Tyrolean Alps. Stingel replicated every detail of the original image of a snowy Alpine peak, including creases in the print. He also left the paintings out on his studio floor to collect scuff marks, spatters and other incidental debris. The works are consistent with the artist's career-long interest in the intersection of art, experience and memory.
