Matsutani, an associate of Japan’s postwar Gutai movement, is being given a mini-retrospective in this survey of works from the ’60s to the present. His approach has varied widely over the years, but it has mostly been process oriented—a good example being abstract canvases in which vinyl shapes inflated with the artist’s breath create pockets of color.
