"When the Curtain Never Comes Down"

The idea of outsider art as a genre of performance is the intriguing theme of this show, which looks beyond painting and sculpture and considers other motivations for self-taught artists such as personal mythologies, cosmologies and obsessions, from erotic to paranoid. Indeed, in many cases, objects that we read as outsider artworks today were never intended as such by their creators, who often viewed them as a means to larger ends that had little to do with art.
