The meanings behind upcoming colors on the Empire State Building

Like that horse in the Wizard of Oz or a giant mood ring, the Empire State Building is constantly changing color. But it’s not always easy to know what those colors mean. Here’s a handy breakdown of the planned shades for the month of April to keep you in the know, and hopefully provide you with some helpful cocktail chatter.

April 12: Dark Blue, Medium Blue, Light Blue – In honor of NYC & Company and its Global Meetings Industry Day

April 13: Blue, Green and Yellow – In honor of Riverkeeper and its 50th Anniversary

April 14: Blue, White and Orange– In honor of the NYC Landmarks 50 Alliance and the Finale of the 50th Anniversary of the NYC Landmarks Law 

April 15-21: White

April 22: Green– In honor of Earth Day

April 23-26: White

April 27: Blue, White and Red– In honor of the United State Olympic Committee and its 100 Days Countdown to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games

April 28: Blue – In honor of the New York Police Department and the NYPD Shield Conference

April 29-30: White
