We're stoked to see Mad Max: Fury Road receive so many Oscar nominations. Sequels rarely garner much attention from The Academy and action flicks are statistically among the least nominated genre of film, down there with teen comedies.

The fact that Mad Max is overcoming the odds and getting the recognition it so rightfully deserves is awesome! Here are the categories it's up for: Best Picture, Best Director (George Miller), Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Production of Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. The only film this year to receive more nominations is Alejandro González Iñárritu’s film The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprioit could maybe be Leo's year for an Oscar too.

But wait, allow me to make a case for why Mad Max: Fury Road deserves to win big at the Oscars. Let's break it down, folks.

1. Originality
When was the last time you went to see a blockbuster movie and enjoyed every single second? Yeah, I didn't think so! From the script to the sets, costumes, cars, futuristic wasteland, beautiful cinematography, and of course acting, this movie nailed it.

2. Charlize Theron
CHARLIZE. THERON. Not since Monster has she rocked a role so hard. Reign Furiosa, REIGN!

3. Feminism
It's 2016, so let's get with it and let a strong warrior woman role win the Oscar.

4. George Miller
Guys, c'mon—the man is amazing. He's also the writer of the Mad Max: Fury Road comic books, and he needs to win an Oscar for something that isn't Happy Feet.

5. Comic books are the shit
They're a true (and often unappreciated) art form that translate well to the screen, and Mad Max is proof of that. (The books served as a prequel to the film.)

6. Think of the children
Do you want them to live in a world where a Cold War thriller won best picture? NO! Then let's go Mad Max!
