New York Baroque Incorporated
This ensemble of recent Juilliard grads—a bright, recent addition to New York's early-music scene—has announced that its third season will deal with a wide swath of the concerto grosso literature. The players are making good on their word, out of the gate, with this initial program. The old school is covered with works by Stradella, Vivaldi and Telemann, while the next-gen side is represented by a new Huang Ruo piece, Distant Mountain, for period instruments.

Kudos to President Joseph Polisi for being hip enough to bring 'historically-informed performance' into the curriculum at Juilliard.  Like the move to add jazz to the school's offerings, this move required some guts and some money, but it gives Juilliard's students and alums a different way of looking at music and maybe some employment opportunities as well.  Monica Huggett and the other faculty are among the best in the field.  Bravi, tutti!
