Danny Kaye’s masterpiece finds the comic as nimble with a sword as with his facial muscles, foiling the evil plans of sneering baddie Basil Rathbone. Terrific songs (by Kaye’s wife), a vibrant love interest (Glynis Johns), some of the best wordplay since the Marx Brothers—it’s a sheer delight.
