To celebrate 125 years of pastrami-filled success, the iconic Katz’s Deli is doing it up with a blowout Shabbat dinner. Top-notch chefs like Danny Bowien (Mission Chinese Food), Joey Campanaro (the Little Owl) and Bill Telepan (Telepan) will spin their own chefly renditions of signature Katz's dishes, using the deli's famed pastrami and corned beef. A ticket gets you a feast of Bowien's kung pao pastrami, roasted chicken and matzo ball soup from Telepan, and Campanaro's Lake Superior whitefish with pickled tomato and red onion relish. Pastry guru Sarabeth Levine will finish the meal with orange-apricot marmalade with crystallized ginger. Proceeds go toward the Henry Street Settlement, providing housing and health care to vulnerable New Yorkers. For those who crave more celebration, the legendary Lower East Side restaurant is also hosting a pastrami-eating contest on Sun 2, to kick off the DayLife festival, offering cash prizes totaling $7,500.
