Join vegan chef Jay Astafa (3 Brothers Pizza Cafe) for a three-course dinner of white-asparagus panna cotta, purple-cauliflower-puree–topped steak chimichurri and a carrot-coconut gelato with faux cheesecake to kick off this veg fest. What you can expect to eat during the two-day exhibition: meat-free samples like quinoa cheese puffs (I heart keenwah), hummus cup,; sweet-and-salty Fakin' Bacon chocolate (Rescue Chocolate), chef Hideyo Yamada's (Kyotofu) flaky mushroom Japanese tofu cake and Ann Nunziata's (Natural Gourmet Institute) triple-chocolate brownies loaded with red-hot spiced pecans, plus much more. Seminars on vegan living are happening all weekend, including Q&A discussions on plant-based eating, led by author Rich Roll, and the factory-farming industry with Farm Sanctuary president Gene Baur.

The energy at these events is amazing. Yes, it is crowded, but that is part of the fun. I love bumping into all kinds of people who feel passionate about the vegan lifestyle, from the animal advocates, to the plant-based cardiologists, to the National Gourmet Institute-trained chefs. And of course the food! Almost every booth has free food samples, so it is necessary to arrive hungry. If you come with non-vegans, they will be amazed at the deliciousness and variety of the foods available--vegans already know this, but they will probably discover some new products or restaurants they hadn't heard about before. There is always something going on: yoga classes, cooking demos, craft activities for the kiddos, book signings. The whole experience is just very fresh and inspiring.


I was at Vegetarian Food Festival today!! It was really amazing to see the number of vendors/companies , who are seriously looking at catering to this lifestyle/Segment. The entrance ticket at the gate was $40, which I think is a little pricey . The price tag really did nt do any justice for the service- the floor was over crowded both with people, and the booth's were too cramped - there was not classification of type of industry or Non - profit , so I could surf only want I want to see; there were no signs or directions posted anywhere, people were allover the placing bumping into each other.. I have seen other event organized at Metropolitan Pavilion and they are of such great quality and have good utilization of space. We have really bump up the quality, if we are expecting to be taken seriously as an industry - we really need to put out best foot forward. I see an opportunity here!!
