New York’s original boutique hotel, Morgans opened in 1984. Some 25 years later, the hotel’s orginal designer, octogenerian French tastemaker Andrée Putman, returned to officiate over a revamp that has softened its stark monochrome appearance. Unfussy bedrooms, cast in a calming palette of silver, gray, cream and white, are hung with original Robert Mapplethorpe prints; window seats piled with linen cushions encourage quiet reflection. The bathrooms, dressed with classic black-and-white tiles, offer products from NYC’s Malin + Goetz. The guests’ living room, stocked with coffee and tea, is equally understated. Rooms: 113.
